Heading Forward

For the past 6 years I have been practicing yoga off and on.  I was very disciplined for about 3 years, religiously going to my neighborhood yoga studio.  After my favorite instructor left to move out of state, my practice fell apart and I fell out of groove.  Each time I take a class, I think to myself “why don’t I do this more often?!”  My career is stressful and exercise definitely helps to provide an outlet for that stress.  But why don’t I commit to things that are good for me?

In the past year, I have found some inspiration through social media.  I follow a variety of fitness experts on Instagram who are strong athletic women who fill my newsfeed with mind/body exercises and positive thoughts.  A philosophy that has stuck with me is persistence.  Of course we teach this to our students, but sometimes we’re so focused on our work that we forget about ourselves.

So begins the journey to the headstand.  I chose the head because that’s where I live most of the time.  I don’t always use my head for my own good, but I can always start somewhere.  I know it will take time to master yoga inversions and the theories behind them, but I thought this would be a good way to track my progress!  The yoga community is supportive and positive.  I hope it helps me maintain a positive and healthy mindset throughout the school year.  Even if I end up looking like this:
